One of my fav HDR images...

Hi guys.

Here's one of my favourite HDR images I've done.

Sandal Castle, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. It quite a basic shot but I just love this image, to be honest, the mono version looks even better.

Hi Darren,

I agree with Tamara regarding the clouds, although for my taste; a little less foreground saturation and more sharpness on the ruins would help.

Would it be possible to sharpen using the software in the HRD merged created images?

I have never done a HDR yet but very keen to try. I am looking into softwares. I do not have photoshop Elements nor CS yet.

Just started thinking after reading your posting if in post processing one could sharpen or should have used a smaller aperture at the time of photography?

I wouldn't have thought the HDR software would sharpen effectively, but I don'tdo it, so I wouldn't know.

One should always* sharpen in PP, just using a smaller aperture at taking is not the same thing.
Equally, one should always perform standard PP on a merged HDR image.
Miss either and you'll generally not be making the most of your images.

* As with any "always" rule, there will be occasional exceptions

If on a budget, you can do a lot with Elements (cheap), or GIMP (free). Both are effectively only 8 bit though, so in a year or three's time, you may find yourself eventually hankering after proper Photoshop. (I'm just getting there)

I like it, even though I like the sharper HDR images, I still like this one A LOT!
