    Excellent. Perfect timing.

There was reference in a thread earlier this week to 'the decisive moment'. This is another example of that.

And a very well finished and presented image.

Hi Tejal - this is a bit of a strange image. The whole background really does not seem to belong and going monochrome with the wonderful headgear and decoration on the uniforms worn by the soldiers seems to lose so much.

The timing of the shot, in catching the front-most the soldier wiping his eye is perfect. The light drop-off is a bit strange.

Before I comment more, I'd like some insight as to what you are trying to accomplish here.

Thanks Manfred for your comment. This picture was taken at a police parade ground before the parade starts. All the policemen were all set for parade. Their attention was in front (almost) and I just tried to capture an odd action of any one of them and some how the guy in front most noticed me and I captured that moment.

The reason I converted it into BW, as the guys in the next raw and some in the front last part were in some different uniform. And the BG is of green color, due to trees.

Tejal, perfect timing. I for the most part prefer B&W in this picture however I believe there be quite strong colours. I think it would a shame not to show them. I agree with Manfred regarding the background. I would love to see an edited and also colourful shot. That is only my opinion.
    Cheers Ole

Re: No title (1) - C&C are most welcome !

Thanks Tejal - that helps a lot.

By the way, I find the coloured version is much stronger than the B&W.

I wonder if you might want to consider scaling back some of the intense PP you've done to concentrate our view on the policeman up front. I suspect he stands alone quite well, without being quite as much PP. I do like the leading lines made by the heads and feet of the policemen as they fade off. I also like the lines (from their rifles?) between the rows of standing figures that adds some interesting continuity to the image.

I also find that the fun part of police and military dress uniforms are the uniforms themselves as well as the headgear.s While I do shot B&W when the scene requires that treatment, I do so only when I gain something compositionally. I can't remember that I've ever felt that this was necessary in these types of shots that i have taken in the past.

Sorry for playing with your image. It seems a bit muddy, but fixing your black point and white point takes care of that. Add a bit of Nik ColorEfex2 (Pro Contrast filter only), slight vignette and a touch of dodging the solder's face. Trim a bit off the top of the image and a tiny bit off the bottom...

Both work for me, the color version more so because it really centers his eyes on you (or us the viewer) and makes it appear he's acknowledging our presence. Nicely done.

Thanks Manfred, here in this pic my interest was to capture something odd. But I do have some pics where i have tried to capture similarity of policemen. Though we were not allowed to go close, I could not take any close up pic. Here are some :

Thanks for the update, Tejal. I do like the other two pictures you added.

I tend to be nervous about taking pictures of policemen and soldiers in countries where I am not familiar with the customs and laws. The place where I am staying at in India is not far from a military parade grounds that we walk by every so often. I've seen a few shots that would have been interesting to take, but did not take them, because i really don't want to get into trouble with the Authorities.

They generally dont take any objection, but it is better take the permission and there things go smooth. They will be more happy in fact to be photographed . You can try it. No harm.

Tejal, I do not like the composition very much not that it is not good. It is. But I prefer the coloured version best. The colours, the attention of the policeman to your camera, it is excellent. The added images are both good too. I really love them. Good job.

Tejal, I really like both the color and the B&W versions but tend to prefer the monochrome. For some reason, IMO, in the monochrome version the main subject seems to be isolated a bit better.

This image strikes home for me since I served in the U.S. Navy for 32-years and can relate to being tired, bored and hot while standing in formation for what seemed like an eternity...
