    Coconut seller

I did a lot of soul-searching before posting this image. I normally don't shoot people that are not in the shade at mid-day because of the quality of the light. I do convert a lot of my street shots into B&W to simplify the scene, but in the end, here it is, in full colour.

I shot at a wide angle to exaggerate the depth of this image. While it looks like the man has a lot of coconuts tied to his bicycle (he does!) the technique I used exaggerates this even more. There are a number of coconut sellers who work like this around town. Once he reaches his destination, he'll park his bicycle on it's kickstand and wait for customers. When someone wants to drink some coconut water, he'll untie one, use a machette to cut away the shell, pull a plastic drinking straw from the cylinder you can see strapped to the bike's front fender and will hand these to the buyer. There are plenty of coconuts lying on the ground, so you can figure out what people do with the empties...

I like this shot -- very nice. Another of those environment kind that tells a story without too much need for commentaries at times...the best fruit on earth. It has everything in it. I missed those...

What this shot suggests to me is that he probably climbed the tree himself to get them down.

(noting he does not conform to the 'clean clothes' concept discussed in another thread very recently, but probably with a good reason)

I dare not suggest cloning out that bit of litter in lower left corner
(I accept it was there and part of the street scene, which is what you're recording)

I had looked at that and decided to leave it in as seems to fit the scene, Dave. As litter goes, i did not find it distracting.

Manfred, I have been looking at all your pictures from India with great interest. Many years ago my wife and I travelled through India for a couple of months. We had little money as we were still studying. We would spend nights sleeping in same quarters with chickens and goats and sleeping on the decks of boats. I would like to go back again tomorrow if I only could.
This picture brought back many memories.
    Cheers Ole
