Very good!
I cannot take any credit I found it on the NZ DSLR facebook page and it has come from some other site.
Good one!
Brilliant. I love it.
I just posted a message on social media, which has stirred quite a bit of reaction:-
"In Sainsbury's (supermarket) today and bought a dozen roses, as I frequently and regularly do to display around the house (to keep up a practice that Sheila always held to).
I wondered why everyone was smiling at me with that sort of, "Aww, that's so nice" look on their face.
Got home and saw that it was that silly Valentine's Day thingy today. Never could understand why there has to be one day when you're meant to make a display of your love for someone. There are another 364 days each year on which you can do that as well."
Well, that's stirred the horses!
My good wife bought me a monopod. It may not be as romantic as roses, but it was perfect for me! I returned the favour with some art stuff she wanted, and I cooked black and blue steak for dinner. So I'm feeling like I've earnt my valentine points this year!
Donald - you are of course right, but in the same way as I don't go to church but celebrate Christmas, I don't mind having an excuse to make a fuss of the one I love. We shouldn't need excuses but it does little harm, and it keeps the florists in business for a few more attempts at the flower/waterdrop macro shot that I have yet to get right...
Not in my household.
My wife and I of nearly 33 years have never celebrated Valentine's Day. We call it the Hallmark holiday. I was explaining this to a middle-aged woman a few years ago and she said, "Let me guess. You're going to tell me that everyday is Valentine's Day in your home." Yep, I assured her, that's exactly the truth. I further explained that every night we have a candlelit dinner paired perfectly with wine, with soft music in the background and that we never know whether we're going to talk for 30 minutes or 3 hours. (As you can tell, we've also never had children.) Honest to goodness, she then skeptically asked me if we've ever watched television while we ate dinner, as if surely we had. I had to tell her that indeed that has never happened.
I am to go to my last doctor's appointment this Tuesday and Bill decided to call my neighbour across the road and told her where to find my doctor's office because she is driving me there. Anyway, towards the end, he greeted her Happy Valentine. He got crap from her!All I heard when he put the phone down was "That grouch!!!"
Anyway, we forgot to make reservations at our favourite restaurant so I ended up cooking for tonight's dinner. One of the kids are bringing some chicken wings and I am serving Crunchy Chinese Chicken salad with Wonton Crisp and some soup. I saw that this will be one of the recipes that Wolfgang Puck is serving at the Oscars dinner night at the end of the month.
Valentine Day here wasn't quite as earth shaking as in NZ![]()
We have had a few visits to a hospital over the last few years. Just a fact of life as you get older. However I look on the bright side it was not that many years ago that they did not have effective procedures for some of the problem we have had.
When people refer to me as incurable I am fortunately in a position to inform very bluntly (because that's my style) that they are wrong.
Anyway I trust everything goes well for all of you.
