    St Valentines Day Rose

Well it was recently St Valentines day, so I bought the roses for my lady but then decided that they will wilt and die in a week or so - wouldnt it be nice to give her one that did not, oh and I had some Hahnemuhle William Turner 310 matt fine art textured paper to try out, the image is nice but have to say on that paper - its really nice, so she now has a A4 print on art paper to hang on the wall should she choose to

    comments and critique welcome

Very lovely; a more close up with first two sets of leaves give a better prominence for the flower

Thank you Nandakumar, I understand what you say and appreciate it. I did look after I took the shot about limiting the leaves as the lower one has a few issues in relation to the image, they are damaged and bent - but then decided that is how it is and left it at that. I feel the imperfections enhance the rose, life is in iteself not perfect but that does not stop it being good, and while we focus on the rose we sometimes need to remember without the leaves to feed the life of the plant there is no rose, so I did not re-shoot it.

A very good intent for your lady. Bill knows I do not like to receive flowers for any occasions like some do so he gives me a pot of plant instead. Now that I am involved deeply in learning, I tend to be sorry for this decision of years ago. Photographing flowers has a calming effect for me and so it goes.

    Thank you Nandakumar,

Thanks Binnur, appreciated. The rose was laid flat on a sheet of glass suspended above a white card and then the card was lit from two opposing sides with LED lights to blow the background, a white reflector on high left to push some light back down into the top of the flower, camera on tripod above looking down, meter on the rose and with very little work a 'clear' background ( almost ) is created, a slight tweak in LR and PS and its not too bad.

Izzie, I also started buying plants in pots for my lady - but we are now out of space for them on windowsills!

Your wife and I need a bigger house to put our pot plants in during winter.
