    Chinese Lantern Festival Year 2016

I just went to the first day of the Chinese New Year Lantern Festival in a wet and humid evening. This at least had the impact of reducing the numbers attending so I had a tad more chance to get shots without clutter. Despite that there was a lot of activity, so I had no chance to set up a tripod, so these photos were taken hand-held.

Each year the number of items in the display is increased, so the venue has had to move to a larger site. This being the year of the monkey, it takes centre place in the display.

Absolutely wonderful exposures of unique objects.

I would be tempted in the last one to change the ground to black, partly to keep the look consistent with the other photos in the set.

I was going to go but the rain put me off. You've made me wish I'd made the effort now! Nice photos

    Hi there:

Welcome to the CIC forum. Can I suggest you go to your profile and add your first name so we can respect you by calling you by your name?

Nice to meet a fellow JAFFA! You can still go down there for another 3-4 nights, it will just get busier but the weather is better. Best to get there about 8:30pm.

Here are some more of the most recent additions to the array of lanterns:

Nice shots Trev - you've shown us a nice mix of images with various lighting styles.

I've got to get myself to a city with a more sizeable China town for Chinese New Year some day. The photo ops look fantastic.

Thanks Manfred! The lantern festival in Auckland is the best I have seen anywhere. They made or imported from China over 800 lanterns for this one event. Last night was fairly quiet because the weather was a bit iffy, and there were no food stalls, but tonight it's all on and I am glad I don't have to try to get clear shots this time!

All excellent and colourful shots, Trev...I am feeling sorry for myself not being able to time my trip to Oz for the CNY...I am envious of all these colourful lanterns. I think ours here at the Botanical Garden was in the middle of the year and we didn't go either. I will remember this event this year because of your shots here.I particularly like the first shot and the tea pot...and in the second batch, the boat with fishies. The rest are nice too but just like any Asians, I prefer the rich red and orange colours.
