Excellent detail Dave. I like the sky too - those clouds will be back tonight with thunder I think.
At the risk of changing reality I think I would edit out the high-rise on the right - I find it a bit distracting and unbalances an otherwise great shot.
Nicely composed and captured.
Hi Dave, very nice shot I would crop the image from both sides to eliminate the lamp posts as they distract from the main subject.
The sky came out well in BW. The rest is symmetry
What do you think of the a6000?
Well Dan I'm still getting used to the camera but so far I am happy with it and am confident it will suit it's intended purpose - ie a light weight, relatively compact camera that can produce decent image quality in a travel situation (landscapes, cityscapes, buildings and people shots (as in tourists)).
Needless to say I am comparing it to my FF Nikon system and it can't match that in terms of sharpness and ISO noise performance. But so far I'm not concerned about that. I only have one lens, the 16-50 kit which is an in-expensive lens but it's performance is OK, particularly at the wide end. I don't make large prints.
There are a couple of small nitpics :
With Auto ISO, you can't set the slowest shutter speed as far as I can see
The EVF takes a bit of getting used to but when you start thinking of it as a framing aid only, it works fine
The hybrid AF system seems to work well but it still can't match the speed of a DSLR. This shouldn't matter to me for travel photography
One feature of the camera I do like is the WiFi interface and in particular the use of the PlayMemories app to download pics to the iPad. If you are shooting raw, it will extract the embedded jpeg and download this to the ipad rather than the full raw file. This is much quicker and doesn't fill up the limited memory capacity of the ipad. It's all I need for quick preview on a decent screen.
Dave
Dave, my comments re the a6000 are pretty much ditto yours. One thing that I do like about the EVF is that when shooting with manual settings it pretty well shows you the exposure you're going to get. That was one of my pet peeves with the EVF in the Nikon1 is that it constantly adjusted its own brightness rather than reflecting your settings. I haven't utilized the wifi yet but that's a good idea downloading the jpegs to the pad. I'll have to see if it works with Android devices.
Beautiful image! I particularly like the edit now compared to the original. At first I was thinking this would look better if cropped a little bit from the bottom, but I like how you eliminate the two lamp posts instead. Clouds in Oz is sure more pronounced than over here...
