Re: Elbow Room Only
I really like this photo, firstly it is in B&W, secondly it tells a story. The woman is kind of isolated, the fact that two of the men have no faces but are big only adds to the tension. I really don't think a colour version would work as well. Sometimes colours dominate too much.
Cheers Ole

Re: Elbow Room Only
A collection of elbow shots! I like the conversion to black and white and the clarity and separation in the whole shot itself. Easily recognizable.

Re: Elbow Room Only
Nice concept which I reckon could only be framed in B&W. Just wonder, seeing that the heads on the LHS were cropped at the top of frame, whether a slight crop down the LHS would bring the framing in closer to put more emphasis on the 'elbow' theme? And was having the shot slightly off vertical intentional? Doesn't really faze me as it is a very nice capture and an interesting and unusual concept. Gives me a few ideas to pursue, thank you.

Re: Elbow Room Only
Thanks Ole! And you're right about the color, the woman and the person in foreground right are wearing the same color light blue smock, the man whose back is to us has a medium blue sweatshirt tied around his waist and wearing bluejeans, the man furthest back is also wearing jeans, so there was a lot of blue in this image.

Re: Elbow Room Only
Thanks Griddi. It's different maybe because it's more of a tight shot and we can only really see the woman's face and even then half her face is hidden by her hand.

Re: Elbow Room Only
Hi Ken and thanks. This is one of those SOOC shots, there was no cropping at all. The person RHS foreground had just moved out of the way and all I could do was take a fast hip (actually mid-chest) shot. I did try cropping off the man on the far left but I just didn't like the way it looked. I'm curious now to see what you're thinking about pursuing.

Re: Elbow Room Only
I had the same thought as Ken. I tried cropping from the left in Lytebox - split that guy down the middle of his left leg - which gives the elbows more prominence. It does make the frame feel a bit cramped, but then again that goes with the idea of 'elbow room only'.

Re: Elbow Room Only
Thanks Greg, I'm partial to the present image but I'll revisit the crop, mostly because you point out the image, if cropped does become cramped, and that does work with my title.

Jack
Having opened my big mouth I guess I have to put my money where my mouth is, as they say.
So I did a bit of a crop and also straightened to vertical. Whether or not this is an improvement and if this end result still satisfies the criteria you set in framing the initial shot is of course a moot point and entirely up to you. It is your pic and maybe it would have been best were I to have just enjoyed it without 'sticking my bib in." :

Sorry, but as Big Arnie said, " I'll be back!" And so I am. How is this for a thought to fit in with your theme? I just asked the person on the RHS of frame to take a pace backwards.
Cheers

Re: Elbow Room Only
m.o.u. psychotic breaks and senescence seems to bring out the creativity in you (I'm just gonna assume that Greg is naturally creative). Either case I have to admit both of you seem to have had a good idea. The problem with these edits is that, while they do work for me, having hung my hat on my initial image, it becomes a lot of work to go back and look at it through new eyes. So I will go back, make the edits myself and see if I can get onboard with it.
Thanks for taking the time and effort, I guess in your deteriorating condition(s) anything to while away the time.
P.s. Oh and, with regard to having that person on the RHS take a step backwards...I see what you did there. Another example of your unrestrained madness.
