I am changing my shooting technique. Instead of wandering the garden snapping away I find one or two subjects and have fun.

which is what I was trying for. On a slightly philosophical path; how do I get effective complex (busy?) garden shots?

Or make sure the background is sufficiently blurred.

I frequently do a bit of 'gardening' to remove any potentially distracting problems before shooting.

Also thinking carefully about arranging anything which isn't or cannot be removed/hidden. For example, I find that slightly blurred background stems which are aligned with the main subject look much better than having a background 'grain' which 'flows' across the subject flow.
