    D750 Clean Sensor

    Hey everyone,

I have taken a few pictures the last few days and noticed some dirt or fluff in the pictures and I have used two different lenses and just wondering if anyone could help me find a way to lock the mirror up so I can blow the sensor to make sure the dirt is not on that!

I have a D750 but cant seem to find a on-line video to help me.

I think I have attached the photos you can see it in, but you should see it on the mid bottom left!

    Thanx

    James

Hi James - no photos attached!

And no advice on how to DIY - I'm happy to change lenses with abandon, but am a devout coward when it comes to going anywhere near the sensor. You don't say where you live, but with any luck there will be an approved Nikon service centre near you. If not, there's always mail ... I get mine (D7100) cleaned when needed by taking it in to A J Johnstone in Glasgow - fast and reasonably priced service.

If you can't find it through the Nikon website then try youtube.

    D750 Clean Sensor

    James,

I don't have that camera, but I think p. 451 of your manual shows how to lock the mirror up for cleaning..

Re the cleaning itself: I believe that your camera has an anti-alias filter, which means that there is nothing special about cleaning that sensor (that is, cleaning the filter), compared with others. There are lots of threads on this site that discuss the general issue of sensor cleaning and provide specific instructions on different methods. I have posted mine. So, a quick search of the site should bring them up. If you want to use a video, then you could search for videos with or without the D750 name, since once you have the mirror locked up, what you do is independent of the brand of camera.

There are also postings on how to identify sensor dust. Basically, it's two steps: 1. Shoot a plain surface at a very narrow aperture, say, f/22. 2. Try two lenses to make sure it is not dirt on the back element of a lens. Once you have seen it once or twice, you will know even without these steps.

You will find that there are a number of techniques. For example, lots of people use wet swabs for the most stubborn dirt, but many people use alternatives. IMHO, the general principle in any case should be to start with the least invasive. My own sequence is:

    1. Rocket blower (NOT canned air)
    2. If that doesn't work, sensor-cleaning brush
    3. If that also doesn't work, wet swabbing.

    Re: D750 Clean Sensor

When I had my D700, I cleaned the sensor all the time.
I used a similar product to this. I'd changed lenses in any situations and would have to clean often. I've never had any issues.

Even with my Olympus EM-1 and EM-5, with the 5 axis stability, I clean without hesitation. You can even see the sensor wiggle while doing so. Again, no issues. As long as you're not trying to Incredible Hulk the thing you should be fine.

EDIT - Link to video showing how to swab clean the sensor with the product I linked above.

    Hi James

I have a D610 rather than a D750 but it may be similar.

Hit Menu button, select Setup Menu, scroll down to Lock Mirror Up for Cleaning

You should get a message "when shutter-release button is pressed, the mirror lifts and shutter opens. To lower mirror turn camera off"

You then press shutter and will hear shutter open. Take your lens off and away you go.

I find that taking a photo of clear blue sky at a small aperture to be better than a plain surface. You may need manual focus if the camera can't autofocus.
