Glass Angel

This hand blown angel is the ornament on the top of our Christmas tree.

Setup
The tabletop is grey semi-glossy art board. The background is black velvet positioned to fill the frame, no more and no less. A medium continuous-light lamp is shining from behind toward a large circular diffuser, the background, subject and camera. A flag with a rectangular hole is in front of the lens to eliminate flare and increase contrast. The slight blue cast was added during post-processing.

Okay Mike, there has to be another story here. Either the Christmas tree came down really late this year or you found a stray ornament somewhere. We have a similar set of ornaments and I was thinking about shooting some but waited too long and they had been put away before I got around to it.

Manfred guessed correctly that there is a story explaining why I photographed a Christmas ornament in late February. My wife and I have some close friends who were scheduled to spend the evening in our home during the holidays. Unfortunately, days before we were to get together, they were called out of town first to say goodbye to a relative on her death bed and then a second time to go to the funeral. All of that caused them to miss a good part of their Christmas. So, my wife and I decided from the outset that whenever we would reschedule the evening with them, we would do it exactly as originally planned; we would give them their Christmas present at that time, the dining room table would be set with the Christmas decor, and all of the Christmas decorations would still be in the home including the Christmas tree. That evening occurred recently, so it was just a few days ago that the tree was returned to the storage room (the same room as my makeshift studio) and I was able to easily photograph the glass ornament.

I like the blue cast added post-processing. It really sets it off.
