Throwing the DMC - LX100 wide open

Yesterday, my very dear friend who is a much more creative and imaginative photographer than I am, requested/suggested/demanded (and I always do what I'm told) that I go out with my new Lumix DMC-LX100 camera, open it right up, just to see what it would look like.

So I went for a walkabout. Many people who know my pictures will look at the trees in the background and think, 'I've seen them before'. You have indeed. A number of times.

So, a bit of fun, but, I think, a reasonably respectable image resulting. Again, your views will be welcome. This is at f2.8 (lens is f1.7 - f2.8).

I just love Celtic crosses. Nice composition!

My only question is why you wouldn't make the same style image using your DSLR?

Oh, I would Mike. It's just that yesterday it was just the Lumix I had and was, well not quite playing around, but just having fun. And just wanted to see how it would come out with the Lumix wide open. Of course, with the 5DS, I could REALLY throw the background out of focus.

Very nice image I think I would prefer some more blur in the BG . Why didn't you use f/1.7 ?

Because it depends on the focal length. As you increase the zoom, the aperture closes down until, at about 65mm it goes to f2.8.

Nicely done, DOF gives an eternal dimension to the capture.

Very well done, and as John noted, there is something about the background that adds an extra dimension to the photo.
The DMC-LX100 seems to be a very capable camera. If you don't mind my asking, was your focal length 65mm and what was your distance from the cross?

Fascinating. I use the Spokian term because for some reason it reminds me of the painted back grounds in Star Trek.

    Great shot.

Assuming that the crop factor is 2.2, an equivalent image (same framing, background blur, noise etc...) on a full frame camera will require a 65 mm, f/6.4 lens at ISO1000 and 1/4000 s.
