    My dad

One of our colleagues on here once wrote a warning to others to not miss the opportunity to make images of your elderly relatives, particularly parents, as the chance to do so might disappear quickly.

My mum died quite a few years ago now and my dad, a farm worker all his life, was never really prepared for life alone after 51 years of marriage. But he's done okay. My adult life has been different from his. But we're okay, me and my dad.

This picture is full of meaning and emotion for me. Your objective thoughts on it as an image, will be welcomed

Donald, we both know what it is to lose loved ones. It's good that you have each other!

Donald, it's a lovely portrait (I'd like to hear your dad speak, he must have some tales to tell).

But, I simply cannot look at it objectively without thinking of my parents. My dad died over thirty years ago, but my mum was 95 last week - and she absolutely refuses to have her photo taken. I think I must abide by her wishes, and rely on old photos and memories.

I think all must make it an image to be treasured, which I am sure you do.

Nicely focused capture of your dad, the background elements are just a tad soft and this was perhaps your intention; fading memories and all.

Wonderful shot, Donald. You are right about photographing our parents. Today I find I have too few photos of mine.

The characteristic of this image that I like best is that your father seems to feel so comfortable in his own skin.

I think you have captured the character and personality of your father extremely well.

You're also making me feel a bit guilty, as I've neglected photographing my father for the longest time. I'm going to see him in less than a month, so I should bring my camera along. My father is 92, so I suspect that I had better get some shots of him while I still can.

I can't talk about the emotional value of this, and others, picture. But what I should try to avoid is a middle line that's not vertical. I mean the corner of the room. Not sure if you've enough space to correct this.

What a wonderful way to honor your parent before he too becomes part of just a beautiful memory.

Donald, I always look at your photos for the simple reason that your mono shots are impeccably done. The photo of your father is superb for obvious reasons.

    Re: My dad

A wonderful image Donald, your dad looks fairly relaxed in no doubt his favourite chair. His eyes make the image for me, is he looking or remembering?

My dad turns 80 in July and my brother and I are taking him for a scenic flight of Launceston and surrounding areas in a chopper.
He had his own light plane back in the day for his work and has been in the odd chopper also for work but Chris and I have never been in one so it will be wonderful to share the experience with dad.
There will be a camera involved of course
