    Tifany Falls, Hamilton Ontario

Taken June 2015, and filed away in my Flickr library. I was looking back and decided to post it here for your C&C.

Joe, I like this too. I know a lot of folks aren't into the silky water, but I like the way it looks here.
If you're into experimenting, you might look into alternate aspect ratios, like maybe a 1:1. Just a thought.
    Good job.

What a beautiful fall. Nice textures to the rocks and lovely green stuff. I like you choice of ss for the smooth water. compositionally it seems a bit unbalance. Both due to the water flow and the fact most of the green is on the left of frame. Much of the right side is essentially dead space. Perhaps cropping to a 4x5 ratio with the bulk (or all) of the crop removed from the right side would be worth a look. Lovely image regardless.

+1 to Dan's comments. If something is not contributing to the composition, then removing it will result in a stronger composition. I might even be tempted to crop this to a square format to see how that plays out.

Thanks Sergio. I will definitely look at that option.

Without a doubt, a nicely captured image but loosing some of the dead space on the RHS is definitely an option. The chosen shutter speed for the water works for me. Not always the case but it is here.

I belong to those who are not a fan of smooth water but this one works well for me. I love this scene, Joe...very beautiful and good processing.

Thanks Dan. I was swayed by the ' rule if thirds' and wanted to keep the waterfall off centre. In addition I like the texture if the rocks. I will try your suggestion of a 4/5 crop. Here it is:

Thanks Manfred. Is this a case where I should disregard the ' rule' of thirds? I will see how a square format looks.

Thanks John. I wanted to ensure I captured the very thin veil of water on the right.

Hi Joe,a beautiful image IMO the square format works best .The waterfall doesn't look centered as it flows densely on the left hand side. I can see some blue color cast on the water and rocks but it can be fixed easily with PP.

Thanks Binnur. I noticed the blue colour too and tried to remove it in Light room, but without success. I will have another shot at it.

Hi Joe, you can use the WB tool to correct the color cast but choosing 'auto' in WB settings of LR would also be helpful. I removed the color cast in your image by choosing auto WB and I also reduced the saturation of blues and aquas in the HSL sliders to get rid of the blue color on the rocks. Here is the result. If you don't want your image edited by others, please let me know , I will remove it immediately

Thanks Binnur. I like it. I have never used this function in LR before, always feeling that I would make it worse. Thanks for your guidance in this. I see what you had done, and appreciate it. Thanks again. Here is my attempt:

It still has a blue cast but less than before. The important thing here is that I learned how to reduce it.

Joe - I ignore the 'rule of thirds" all the time. Actually it's not really a rule, but more of a suggestion and the "thirds" are just sort of ways of introducing asymmetry into an image rather than exact measures.

It is far more important to get a good image than to try to force specific compositional rules into a situation where they don't work. I had a conversation with the professor who was teaching the photographic composition course I took at local community college at this time last year. He said that at least 80% of the work he sees submitted by students use that particular rule of composition. He also added that many times it actually had a negative impact on their work because they were slavishly following the rule. This prof has been teaching composition for over 20 years.
