Earthquake!

This is not remotely close to my typical style of wine photography, but I just couldn't resist making it. I'm glad I did because the process was one heck of a lot of fun.

Setup
The tabletop is made of pieces of slate typically used for landscaping. The background is translucent black art paper with gold flecks. A medium continuous-light lamp at the right fitted with a red gel lights that side of the bottle and the background. A small continuous-light lamp on the left front fitted with a diffusion sock lights that side of the bottle. The camera is level.

Some magazines might start following you if they see this image Mike. It looks like a shot for advertisement with that set up. I like the BG very much. Well, I like the image very much

Having fun is one of the reasons why we indulge in this hobby isn't it?? And as well as the fun, you have got a tremendous shot. As Binnur says, you'd better watch out or someone may try and recruit you.

For me, the blown out neck is really hard to look at and it over powers the rest of the image.

For me, the blown out neck is really hard to look at and it over powers the rest of the image.

This is the sort of thing that comes down to personal likes and dislikes. The characteristic that you mention is one of the details that makes this image very different from my typical style. I like it in this image because it adds an edgy look to the scene that is balanced by a similarly edgy direct reflection on the bottom right side of the bottle.

I would avoid both of those direct reflections in my typical style or at the least I would considerably tone them down. Even so, it's nothing short of amazing for me to see photos of wine bottles and food in magazines that aren't particularly edgy yet display lots of direct reflections that hide the texture, color and shape of the subject. I just don't get it; I don't know whether tastes are encouraging the use of those direct reflections or lack of taste is allowing it.

Anyway, the image is exceptionally creative both in the conception and in the execution!
