    Chaffinches Three

Taken during a mid hike break. No great shakes because these birds clearly were used to picking up the crumbs left by passing walkers and were relatively fearless in approaching us as we snacked. Photographing them was a bit like shooting fish in a barrel.

John, They may be used to people but the composition and sharpness etc are reflection on skill none the less. Well captured

Nicely done even if they were cooperative.

John...is there a difference between #1 and the other two shots? #1 seems to have a darker blue and more pronounced yellow on the lower part of the wings. Male or female difference in the stark colours or just in processing? All nice and sharp and composition is excellent. Very pretty, especially #1.

    Thanks Izzie, thanks Dave.

Izzie, I'm not sure what the difference in colour is. They were different birds and it may be just that. They're all males. The female looks like this:

Nicely done John. It is always a welcomed bonus when they cooperate for the camera and the skill of the photographer can shine through.

She is pretty John...but the male bird species, like cardinals are more prettier...

Nice captures, John. I haven't seen a chaffinch before. They look to me like a sparrow with colours

Thank you Binnur, Rita. Izzie, Greg and Nandakamur for the additional comments. Izzie, as with all females, it's the inner beauty that counts. :

Excellent John. All the small birds look their best at this time of year.

Thank you Neville. Your right about the time of year. Not only are they prettying up for Spring but the trees haven't yet developed foliage to obscure them.
