    Photo Paper for Ink Jets

I have ordered a 20 pack of Red River Glossy to try out. Just wondering what experience others have had with Red River in general and what other brands of paper others have used and your comments.

You can use multiple sources of paper, it's all about preparing the medium and system to get the best print. Suggest getting a good text on the subject; such as Steinmueller and Gulbins "Fine Art Printing for Photographers", the text is geared towards providing exhibition quality prints with inkjet printers.

I have used Red River papers (among others) for several years. They are very good, in my opinion. My suggestion is that you buy their sampler pack. It's an inexpensive way to try a variety of different types of papers. Moab also sells a sampler, or at least they used to.

I never use glossy paper any more, but that's just my preference. I generally use luster papers as a default when I want a coated paper. My default luster is Moab Exhibition Luster, and my default matte is Red River Arctic Matte.

You are likely not to get good results with any paper unless you use it properly. You need to use the ICC profile for the specific paper and your printer. Moab and Red River provide those, if you are using a common printer. You need to use the paper medium setting recommended by the vendor for that paper. You haven't said what software you are printing from or what printer you are using, but in most cases, you would want to set the software to control color, not the printer.

Red River, Moab, Iford and others (including the printer makers) put out some fine papers. What you use is completely up to you. I tend to go with a bit of a lustre finish for colour work and matte for B&W.

My favourite papers are put out by Hahnemühle, who may well be the oldest paper manufacturer around.

I print with several brand papers using a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II printer and Canon inks. I have had good results with the Red River brand and also use Canon papers...

Red River has a great variety of surfaces available. Their starter pack is a great and inexpensive way to test these out. Red River frequently has sales on papers of different types and I mostly purchase their product when it is on sale. I like that Red River includes ICC profiles with their papers.

I had some HP paper left over from my previous HP printer and decided to try this paper using my Pixma printer. It was a debacle! The HP paper was just not compatible with the Canon inks and never dried...

Doing a bit of research on ink jet photo papers, I noticed a brand called "Finestra Art" on Amazon which gets pretty good reviews, there are many surfaces available, this paper apparently includes ICC profiles and is priced quite inexpensively. As an example; large 13 inch x 19 inch Premium Luster Paper costs just one U.S. Dollar per sheet.

I have researched this paper on other than Amazon and it seems like it gets very good reviews. It "MIGHT" just be worth considering...

Thanks for the reference to that book, John. I have now bought it and it is exactly what I have been looking for for some time.
