    Broken Glass Dessert Dishes

I was putting some dishes in the kitchen cabinet and the next thing I knew I was catching other glass dishes falling out of the same cabinet. I caught two of the three dessert dishes but all of them broke. Breaking three glass objects at a time is a record even for me.

    Setup
The tabletop is black glossy acrylic. The background is translucent glossy white acrylic. However, in the second image only the reflection of the background appears in the scene, not the background itself. A medium continuous-light lamp behind the background shines toward it, the subject and the camera. All three images were desaturated (not converted using a color filter) to black-and-white and toned very slightly with a blue tint.

I like the 2nd and 3rd - especially the 2nd. Who supplies your glassware? I might buy shares in the company

Nicely composed and good use of tones.

Wonderful stuff, Mike. You turn broken glass into pieces of art.

Not to disparage your work in any way, but I think your sensor might be getting dirty. Either that or my glasses and or monitor need cleaning.

I would appreciate it if you would point out any issues. The culprit is far more likely to be flaws, dust or other imperfections on the acrylic. I always review all areas of the image at 67% to 100%, depending on the image, to clean things up but I might have missed something.

    Mike,

I looked at them this morning before leaving for work. I will check again when I get home later this afternoon as that monitor is calibrated. The one here at work is not, plus a lot of the photos are blocked. As I mentioned, it's most likely something on my end or as you pointed out flaws, dust, or other imperfections on the acrylic.

Another beautifully executed series of images Mike.

You seem to have a special talent of first breaking or spilling something and then turning the results into a masterfully executed image.

Even so, I always zap them and would want to attend to anything I missed.

As usual you prove to be the Master of the subject; i like all of them, but can't choose one.
PS: I think your subconscious mind asks you to slip glasses from your hand...

I'm not sure which details you're wondering about, so I'll do my best to explain everything not already explained in the first post of the thread.

There are two physical objects in the scene -- the black acrylic tabletop and the glass dish. There are three objects reflected in the tabletop -- the dish (of course!), the light shining through the sheet of white acrylic and the black foam core frame holding the white acrylic.

The reflection of the black edge of the frame appears unsharp because it is seen through the white acrylic, which diffuses light by scattering the particles of light in different directions. The dish and its reflection are sharp because I used an aperture setting that renders that part of the image sharp.

The camera is tilted somewhat to the left, which can be observed by noting that any point of the dish is to the left of that same point being reflected in the tabletop. The sheet of white acrylic and its frame are also tilted more than the camera. The two tilts intentionally add an interesting, dynamic look to the scene (that I think movie director Orson Welles would have liked).

I started a new thread to display perhaps my favorite image of the dishes.

    Mike,

I hope you don't mind, but in order to show what I'm seeing, I uploaded one of the photos and circled areas where I notice some irregularities. I can remove the photo if you so desire.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that, Sergio! I'll be able to take care of those issues very easily.

Am I the only one that prefers #4? However I would like it a bit darker and then contrast in the reflections increased.
