Thank you. The best way to learn is to post and listen and try again.

Re: Geese at the Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve
You have nicely handled a tricky exposure.
There is one outcast bird there so I might consider cloning it out and just having the main group. Also, there is an option for trying a slightly closer crop and losing a little from the top and left side to concentrate more on the birds. But I wouldn't want to reduce it by more than around 10%.
This really depends on whether you consider the birds or those background trees etc to be the main subject.

Hi Alex,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.
That's not a bad shot; I can see some merit in a small crop of the left hand side, but personally, because of the silver birch tree behind the stump, I would leave the top of frame where it is. I would also leave the lone goose in the picture too - especially after a left crop, it kinda balances the other group (I feel). Odd I should say this, because normally I agree with Geoff entirely.
Looks like you still have it somewhat colder there than we do here.
All the best, Dave
PS you can upload an image up to 1600px wide to TinyPic - I would have liked to have seen this bigger.

Re: Geese at the Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve
Thanks for the input everyone!
I tried many different crops of this image. I really liked how the birch trees in the back tied into the colors of the ice. My eyes are drawn from the geese, up to the trees, but then back down to the geese again.
I never thought about removing the lone left goose....
I believe this was taken sometime in February. It was cold then. We are beautifully warm for this time of year now! All the ice is gone.

I agree with Geoff off with the errant fowl and perhaps crop a bit off the left not by much though. That is only my opinion.
Cheers Ole

Re: Geese at the Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve
This would have been nicer if the file is bigger, we will all have something to whinge about some more. Anyway, for a first image, this is a good start. Welcome to CiC. I was only able to have a glimpse of your EXIF and apart from saying the size of your image and using Lightroom as your editing software, it also says you took this shot or edited it on March 3, 2016.

Slightly closer crop (letter box perhaps) for me but I like the way you have captured the flock all looking at the singleton. Keep them coming.
