Hey Brian - best of luck with the new project, it's always a good feeling to be motivated to start something new. I really like the lighting and idea behind this picture - he coloured leaves and the grey ground really work together, and it does have that Michelin starred dinner feel about it.
What I would say (if you don't mind me offering some advice) is that like a high class chef, you should place your subjects with perfect accuracy and care. A Chef would not allow the sauce to drip off the plate, and likewise I think the image would be stronger if you cloned out the elements that are cropped by the image edge, something like this (done roughly for illustration). This allows the brain to instantly recognise that everything within the frame is there for a reason. Just my 2c.
