What a beautiful sunset. I really like this. Has the water been converted to B&W? I love the silvery effect it looks like it is moonlit. It might be just my screen, but I think maybe a bit more contrast might make it even better. Beautiful as is though. Great shot. I'm not a traveller, but if I was Alaska would be high on the list of places to visit.

No, the water is the color it was. Thanks for the compliment.
Great shot Tom. No other comment - just great shot.
Lovely image. I love the almost monochromatic look...
Hi Tom,
It is a very nice image, but if I can be an utter ba***rd for a minute and provide a couple of observations;
I think both probably came about by sharpening and they may not even be present in your web original - let me explain...
I see a fair amount of noise and a slight halo around the headland at the skyline.
I am wondering if this was introduced by you or, if you saved to photobucket bigger than 1024 x 508px, if it was introduced when photobucket generated the 1024 width image linked here?
I suspect a higher threshold (on USM or whatever sharpening has been applied) would have avoided the noise (which I see primarily in the sky). A slightly smaller radius for the halo, but I do stress, I am being really picky here.
It is a great image which I'd love to have taken myself.
I do hope that was helpful,
Dave, I was using the Beta version of Oloneo's PhotoEngine. It is a work in progress and has both haloing issues and no noise control. I tried my level best to use as little tone-mapping as possible but very slight haloing, as you noticed, is still present where the land mass meets the sky. I did use a little Topaz DeNoise and DeJPEG, but I did not want to cause detail smearing. I just haven't had the time to work up a version using only Topaz filters, but I thought this was good enough for the moment...

Could you put the original into this post above as well so they're together one above the other? I thought you had an absolute winner with the original. But now .....! I think I like this re-work. It's more subtle.
EDIT - Tom, thanks for that. Yep, you've improved what was already high quality.
