4 Quid....that is insane!
If you are a fan of Mike or Terry's work on here go grab it....now!
Sadly, accessing the link from a US i/p address gives the price as $42.31 (US) after a whopping 6% discount
+1 to Mike's comment. It is really an excellent book (I had the old version and bought the update as well, even though much of the material is identical to to the old one).
Of all the photography books I own, this would be at the top of my list for any serious photographer, if for no other reason than to better understand the behaviour of light when photographing different types of objects.
To expand on that, the differences between the fifth edition (the most recent edition) and the previous edition are:
- A few paragraphs on one page are different;
- Some of the photos that demonstrate the narrative have been changed but none of the changes do a better or worse job of demonstrating the points being made;
- A minor mistake in the details of one of the diagrams of the fourth edition has been corrected in the fifth edition; and
- A chapter has been added to the fifth edition explaining studio equipment. Information provided in that chapter is readily available in lots of places on the Internet.
Taking such small differences into account, if you want a really good deal, buy the fourth edition. Buy a used copy for an even lower price and hope the previous owner has written helpful annotations in the margins.

You might as well order it from the UK website of Amazon. The total cost might still be less than the US price although there will be some shipping cost I live in Turkey and sometimes I order from the UK website if the product I'm looking for is not available on the US website.
I thought for £3.99 it had to be worth a punt. Thanks for the link!
Dave
I bought a second-hand copy of the fourth edition about six months ago for just under £10 and thought it was a good deal. The fifth edition for £3.99 new is just mad!
I have a Kindle copy of the 4th edition, but I've just gone for the paperback copy of the 5th edition.... (Mike, I too like to annotate margins and insert paper notes into specific chapters etc to remind me of things.... Just can't do that with the Kindle edition in that satisfying 'tactile' way!)
Ian, thanks for the link
My father was a teacher, and a mathematician. He always scribbled equations and cryptic formulae in margins. I got told off for doing it, but I still do, though I always use pencil!
5th edition paperback. New. Now all I have to do is read and understand
