    Some Old Ones

A bad cold has kept me from going out and shooting this weekend, so I decided to reprocess a couple old shots.

These two are from a few years ago.

    Stairwell at Mission Concepción

    Some Old Ones

    EF24-105mm, 24 mm, f/8.0, 1/25, ISO-100

Old stalwart tree on the side of a mountain in Big Bend National Park during a foggy winter storm. I know the vignette may seem heavy handed to some, but the background is rather busy and in fog, so I was trying to isolate the tree as much as possible.

The stairs are awesome. Interesting light. Yes the vignette is a bit heavy on the tree.

Nice shots, I especially like the second one. You might consider a slight crop to the right side.

Two nice images. Good use of light in the first. I like the PP of the second.

    Dan,

That stairwell seems to have interesting light only during certain times of the day and year. I happened to be there at the right time.

I know a vignette can be a very subjective design element, but I do understand and get your point.

Thank you for the comment and critique.

    Sam,

I can see where the crop might work but because the longest branch is growing out towards the right, I felt it needed the extra space to help balance out the composition.

Thank you for the comment and critique.

    Jim,

The second is my favorite of the two and that tree really caught my attention when we were there.

    John,

It is a bit of a tight crop as I wanted to get rid of some extraneous items to the left and on the bottom, but it seems to have worked.

    John,

Light can seem elusive to me at times, but I do look for it.

I had originally done the tree differently, but I wanted to try and isolate it more so I gave this a try. I like it.

Nice composition and light as already mentioned in the first one. However, the green tones in the trees is a distraction for me. Consider converting to monochrome, which eliminates that issue and still leaves the feeling of the stairwell opening to the outside world.

The second one would make a nice note card, especially considering the negative vignette.

Yes, Mike, I already have a monochrome version and wanted to try better color processing. You have given me an idea, though. I can try selecting the green area and make it more autumn colored. This should blend in better with the interior.

Thanks for the comment and critique.
