    Here's how it works ...

    - You good folks post images in the thread (please change your post title to a name for your picture)

    - When we get 10 images we will attach a voting poll

    - After 3 days the poll closes and the winner is declared!

    - If you would especially like some critique after the competition poll closes, please make it known in the post

    Too easy eh?

Limit of 1 image per post, and 2 image posts per person.

If there are already 10 in the current comp, please start a new thread in this forums

    Cheers,

    Boatyard in Summer

    Mini Competition #105

After starting off the previous competition with a fishing boat at sea; here is the boatyard in Summer.

Not a lot going on now, just a couple of long term restoration jobs and a few boats for sale still on the quay.

Not all blokes Kay, we have horses. It was once described to me as a tea smell.

I have 3 showjumpers and definitely wouldn't like a my cup of tea smelling like that in the morning

You mean like how I feel when they start talking about that New Car smell. Nothing like off gassing chemicals to make my day.

    Craig's Huut, Victorian Alps

A friend and I hired a helicopter to go into Craig’s Hut over the weekend. The hut is legendary, as being a prop for the Australian Film “the Man from Snowy River”, which told the story of the high country cattlemen. There are still many cattlemen’s huts in the high country and are used to day as a refuse for people stranded in the alps.

    Re: Zebra Swallowtail

    Congrats to Jim.

Personally, I find both Jim's 'Zebra Swallowtail' and Wendy's 'Horse', outstanding.

Although I also liked Nikki's pencil sharpenings (a nice idea, very well executed) and Kay's basketball shot; a great crop/composition, the colours really work for the shot, as well as excellent timing, focus and shutter speed.

Peter, that's a nice shot and no mistake, but if mine, I would have done a perspective correction to straighten up the verticals a little more, maybe not the whole way, but 90% there?

Geoff, that's a nice composition which I think that might have done better had it been larger, say twice as big each way to allow study of the details in all the different areas, or been a crop of just the boatyard.

Laurentiu, I found your 'falling water' almost a good composition, let me explain that; I think it works better with the bright foreground rocks cropped off (or toned down a stop or more), however, that will still leave a 'straight down the middle' too symmetrical composition and there's not much you can do about that - moving sideways to put it on a third is a bit pointless, and shooting at an angle, to get the falls as more of a diagonal, probably wasn't possible. I'm also not sure the WB is correct, it looks just like it would when I take these kind of shots.

    Hope that helps,

Thank you for the kind words & encouragement Dave - I'll keep working on my Basketball, while waiting for the World Road Race Championships that are coming (quite literally) to my back door this year!
