Love it, I like the large amount of earth before it reaches the tree. The temptation would be to crop that part. I think it is integral to the picture - coming from the earth.
    Cheers Ole

    I like it to Robert,

That's a weird combination of things, but all with the common theme identified in your title.

    Well done, Dave

Thanks Dave, could you address composition, please. What do you first see and where your eye goes then...

Having looked at it a couple of times already, this might be skewed by earlier analysis, but I'll try ....

I think I start at the bright trunks where they enter the ground, but I go up the trunk and branches, skimming past that other building on the right, hopping across, via the dark tree in the middle, to the left hand building. What I like about that is the parallel lines of the roof gables, especially how you have the tip of the distant one almost touching the top of the nearer window.

    Was that the right answer?

That tip is not touching this is the fourth attempt to get it not touching.
What you are looking at was exactly how I saw it and how I wanted. After the trunk, your eye is going to the right where you see a tree slowly swallowing small house and than same scene at big house. It only looks like it because of the angle.
Tip not touching is just to show the size of once a house. That is basically a spiral that I intended to make. Thanks Dave, always helpful.

    I said 'almost', look, see
    - except in your quote, which I could edit, but won't

I knew it wasn't touching, but my fingers let me down
