Re: Early morning shot
Alan, I think there is too much going on in the picture. I wonder about the mooring poles in the foreground. A tight crop eliminating them, I suppose. That is only my opinion.
Cheers Ole

Re: Early morning shot
Hi Alan, nice overall photo. In addition to Ole's comments, you may consider leveling the horizon, cropping a bit off the top and adding a touch of contrast. I see a little vignetting in the corners perhaps you intended that but maybe you did not notice.

Re: Early morning shot
In addition to what the others have already pointed out it would likely have been a stronger composition with the rock offset from center. Perhaps to the left.

Re: Early morning shot
I felt these things about this: a potentially nice shot; the hill could have been a bit off centre.; the image needs a little rotation, clockwise. Further needs a bit of contrast boost; hope you won't mind an edit.....

Re: Early morning shot
Thank you all for the input. This shot was taken when I truly was 'always on auto'.
Here is my take on an edit based on the input received. Nandakumar's edit is just a tad over-done as there was a slight haze left in the air from the just lifted fog, so the rock wasn't all the clear and sharp.
I've straightened up the verticals of the masts (at least the one in center frame) assuming that they would be more vertical than leveling the horizon line which varies in actual height left to right in the frame.
Hope this meets with your approval.

Re: Early morning shot
The revised image is nice! It brings up a topic that is always under discussion--should the image reflect the reality of what you remember or evoke in the viewer some sense of what you want to convey--these may not be the same. For me, in this image, the softness of the rock is not quite enough to give me a sense of mist--and the sharpness of the rest of the image reinforces the feeling of lack of mist. Dodging the shadows of the rock and extending the dodging to the first row of boats nearest the rock intensifies the mist and may "feel" more like what you were hoping to capture.
Hope you don't mind my posting another version to demonstrate this concept.

Re: Early morning shot
Judith that is exactly what I was trying to do. I don't have very sophisticated software for processing my images, but you've done it.
Thanks.

Re: Early morning shot
I only have CyberLink Photo Director to work with.
That's why I try to get good SOOC pictures from the get go.

Re: Early morning shot
Always a good idea in any case (SOOC). I don't know that software at all. A dodge of the midtones on the mountain was the key plus extending that a little ways into the water. I won a year's subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud and, during that time, Adobe came out with a photographers subscription at $10.95 per month. For me that was good.

Re: Early morning shot
All the edits looks good and better than it was, Alan -- including that of Nandy's.
