    Mounting up the NDs

Went to shoot with the specific intention of using the ND filters to allow for long exposure photographs.

This was a 3 min 24 sec exposure. 13 stops of ND filter on board (Singh Ray 5-stop Mor-Slo + Singh Ray Vari ND at max = 8 stops)

Your critical assessment and comments always welcomed.

This is definitely an interesting image Donald. It's simple and it works quite well. For some strange reason, by eyes are drawn to the bollard that is camera right. I thought I saw a couple of dust bunnies (I did and they disappeared nicely when I cleaned my screen...).

You are getting me to think about pulling out my 5 and 10-stop filters to work on this type of imagery again. Unfortunately, that implies moving water and that isn't going to happen in these parts just yet (to much ice on the lakes and rivers and the access trails to where I would want to shoot are still much too muddy to use).

Regardless, a fine image. Any shot that makes me stop and think about it, is a shot I like!

A very pleasing and peaceful image.

I see 7 dust bunnies in the sky.

    Thanks, Dan.

What this long-exposure shooting session did indeed reveal was how bad the dust on the 5DS sensor is. Going to clean it later today.

So, Manfred, 'fraid you did see dust bunnies.

    A superb image, no doubt...
I was also thinking about a man with a cap sitting on that half wall, looking away into eternity; we see only his back

You can still work with your ND filters Manfred. A lot of people use ND filters for shooting calm water as it gives a different silky and matte look to the water. It also creates nice effects with clouds. But if your intention is 'shooting with rough water only' with an ND filter then you may not like those effects with calm water

Interesting composition Donald. I would like to see more of your B&W images shot with ND filters as those filters create very nice effects for B&W images too

That's awesome, Donald. Interesting that ND filters can be another tool used to isolate a subject.

    Donald,

This is very minimalist, serene, quiet, and meditative in a zen like way. I think I can hear a pin drop.

    Well thought out and executed.

I see a slight hint of a rose tone on my calibrated monitor that I don't remember in any of your photos. It's quite nice.

    I couldn't describe it better, so I won't try.

    Well spotted, Mike.

I usually make a custom tone from Nik's suite of tones (always the same one). However, it seemed to me that Nik's 'preset' Copper Tone No 16 (No 16 from its list of preset tones) worked better than that which I usually set. And, yes, it is stronger that the one I normally use.

I like what the longer exposure has done to the shadows
