Please, some more information about this image. Why for instance?

In England, Essex tends to be the butt of many a joke so this made me smile. I was just thinking about where we could put it?

AS soon as I saw the image I thought about a B&W conversion John. But I really can't imagine how it works

I think your story would be more interesting, why would Essex be the butt of jokes, is it equivalent to bridge and tunnel jokes? I took this shot of a popular Art Deco hotel, I liked the neon signage and the birds were an added touch. Please provide some Essex quips.

    Hi Binnur,

What caught my attention is seeing similar signs in classic movies, so the idea of a B & W version is worth considering. Thanks for commenting.

    Kaye,

I think I've found the source of your whimsy (Essex Girl), but I'd prefer you provide your version.

    Looks interesting, John.

I was wondering; does it light up in neon colors at night?

Aah, but there is at least one member of CiC from Essex and I do not wish to cause any offence !! Safe to say, there are Essex Boys too.

BTW - I like the B&W conversion, better than the colour I think.

Also the reason why I only referenced a possible source for the term, I felt it would be better coming from someone close to the region. Thanks for the comment on the conversion.

I am late again...but I prefer the original version very much. And yes, the birds are a nice touch to the image.

John - this is one of those shots that I would have probably thought of as going B&W right off the bat (just because of the age / period), but I find that the colour image is vastly superior. The colours are delicate and the shot really does not need the simplification we tend to get when we get to B&W.

I always say I need a good reason to throw out all that colour data that my camera has recorded and in this case, preserving it give a very strong image, stronger in fact than my initial thoughts on this type of shot. I'm going to re-evaluate my "going to B&W criteria, having seen this image in both B&W and colour.

    Hi Manfred,

Usually a featureless sky will cause me to consider B & W or as you stated "age/period" will steer me towards a conversion; at the very least a sepia conversion. I went with color initially because there were some blue visible in the sky and the overall tones of the sign were pretty close to chromatic as captured. Thanks for comments.
