My gorgeous 2yr old Great Niece - such a character - if we could control her she'd make a great model.

It's obvious that she already makes a great model.

    Hi Joanne,

Given your track record here over the years, I hesitate to say this but ...

That's quite a 'heavy' conversion you have there, leading to much accentuation of the undulating surfaces of her face - very contrasty.

I'd have thought that might be more suited to an older (and male), subject, rather than a young girl - is there a reason for this style?

I ask because I'm beginning to get in to shooting my grand-daughter, so portraiture is one of my current learning areas.

Lily certainly has some photogenic expressions

    TIA, Dave

Hi Dave, Thanks for your comments, Over the years I have always taken constructive criticism on board as I want to learn and develop as much as possible. The one thing I was always told that on my portraits (including most of my child portraits) I didn't have enough contrast to the point that I look at my images and wonder if they are too wishy washy. So I have got used to using a fair amount of contrast on my conversions. I also find that when they are converted into print and canvas (always requests from family members) the ones with higher contrast really "pop" and seem to be the most popular with my family. I did some images of my new Grand daughter when she as a few weeks old and made them very soft as a lot of contrast would not suit such a small Baby. I try my hardest to please - sometimes I get it right and sometimes - not so right.

I think that these conversions really accentuate her lovely eyes...

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful little one.

They are very contrasty, and seem to have a lot of clarity and structure. It may be more flattering to tone down some of the clarity with a low opacity brush in selected areas - for example, her eyelids in shot 3 and around her cheeks and mouth in shot 1.

Not to criticise though - I'm another learning child photographer (amongst other things) - and you really have captured her cheekiness so well in these images. Ones to be proud of.
