    Street Photography?

So I have got a bit bored of shooting landscapes and I decided to have a go at some street photography. I picked up a Ricoh GR II and this morning was my first outing.

It was a bit quiet out to be honest due to being a bank holiday but this is one of the shots I managed to get, I spotted this sign/billboard and waited around for someone interesting to pass.

    Street Photography?

    C&C much appreciated.

Thanks George, yes the guy did look like he was just going through the motions of life without any purpose.

That's the hardest part of SP for me; it's the waiting. Nicely composed and processed.

    Yes John, I'm pretty impatient

Also, I have to admit that I was a little nervous shooting random strangers but hopefully I'll get more comfortable with it the more I shoot.

Wonderful image, especially considering it's one of your first attempts at the genre. Hopefully someone will pass by the sign while reading a book when you're ready to release the shutter.

Though you wish things hadn't been so quiet due to the bank holiday, consider that if things had been busy there might have been cars in the parking spaces. One reason this image is so strong is that the man is the only sign of life in the image, which works especially well against the background of the sign's expansive negative space.

I added a second paragraph to my post, Matt. Sorry about the editing rather than posting properly the first time!

    Matt,

If you want some inspiration look at this guy http://thomas.leuthard.photography/
    There're a couple of PDF's and a video.
I think he's going commercial so be fast.

Cheers George, I'll have a look.

I've been looking at the work of William Klein, Robert Frank and of course Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Well seen and well captured Matt. This is definitely a change from your usual work and your photographic eye is certainly well attuned for this genre too.

Thanks Manfred, this is my favourite type of photography to look at and study. I think its one of the best ways of learning, I'm not sure why its taken me so long to have a serious go at it myself, confidence I suspect.

I suspect that comfort level may have something to do with it as well. I know this was very much the case when I started shooting people in these types of situations and have recently found that I am starting to prefer this type of photography to landscapes / urban landscapes that have tended to be what I enjoyed the most in the past.

Hah, that was my immediate thought too.

All Matt needs is the Mobile Library to pull up adjacent

... and a man/woman walking past with a book, of course

However, with regard to 'seeing the photo opportunity', no prizes from me Matt, it so big that even I would have seen it

This (SP) is something I must try sometime.
Well done for trying something new.

    Cheers, Dave
