    Watching Intently

Like many, I celebrated Easter yesterday with my family. My wife and I had an egg hunt inside for our youngest son and afterwards our two older children went outside to look for their eggs. While they were outside running around and searching, my youngest watched them intently through the window. I wish I hadn't cut off his hand but I feel as though I caught the emotion, which is most important to me. Any CC is welcome.

    Shot with a Nikon D5500, Nikkor 50mm 1.8G, and edited in CS6.
    f/2.5, 1/50th, ISO 250, natural light.

Love this Josh nice shot, there is a slight green/yellow tint on your sons face, which I'm assuming comes from the reflection of the trees on the window... I might be tempted to try and reduce that if possible?

Such a wonderful image! I'm not at all concerned that you didn't include all of the hand. The reflection shows plenty of it. The capture draws our attention to the boy's face and I wonder if including all of the hand might have been a small amount of distraction.

Josh - in addition to the comments made by the others, I find the window frame at the left hand side of the image rather distracting. It is just a large and heavy intrusion on the left hand side of the image that does nothing for the composition. If it were my image, I would be tempted to totally eliminate it, but if it has some significance to you, leave just the tiniest hint of it in there might work too.

I played with the crop and was torn. I tried removing the frame on the left and keeping it and I liked it better with the frame but that may just be my personal taste. Maybe it would be better to reduce it a bit more and I'll play around with that. As always Manfred, thank you for your feedback!

Who am I to argue with your personal taste? If you like it, then leave it in.

An excellent family portrait that will be loved for a long time, and very well seen and taken. Th ehand is perfectly fine as it is - the frame, well maybe reduce by 50%, but as Manfred says - its personal and up to you

I also wondered about the window frame. When I moved the image in Lytebox to produce the effect of cropping to eliminate it, I didn't like it as much. That's because including it in the image emphasizes for me that the little boy is prevented from going outside. I have no idea why the reflection in the window frame doesn't have the same effect on me on its own, but it doesn't.

I feel the same way. Something about the frame missing in the image didn't look right to me which is why I opted to keep it.

Really an excellent shot. I rarely enjoy people photos without eye contact but this is one of them. Darn double pane window obscures the reflection but it still adds tremendously to the shot. Nicely done.

Thank you very much! The double pane window almost disappointed me but I ended up loving the effect. I appreciate your feedback!

    Re: Watching Intently

I suspect that you will still be looking at this in twenty years time. It's a lovely image and one for the album. The crop is a difficult one. Removing the frame altogether loses something and reducing it to something narrower leaves me wondering what it is. Both are distracting and so I wouldn't change a thing either.
