    Moss Lady

You go away from a place for a few months and when you get back you discover that people have put up new stuff without asking you!

Actually, walking through my local park, Beacon Hill, on the way to watch the herons nesting, I came across this artwork nestled in a shady spot, surrounded by trees and wetland plants. As the plaque indicates, it is a nod to a similar artwork in the U.K. that I must admit I had never previously heard of. Being in place less that six months it probably has some more filling out to do, but these photos will give you the idea.

Getting the images was tricky as there were quite a few trees in the way, plus a couple of awkwardly-placed lighting poles and a really ugly sign (not the one photographed). The lighting was also a bit of a challenge as there were dappled lights that had too high a contrast during the majority of the day. The only way to get it was to get up early and catch a dimmer side light. I considered using a flash but frankly it would have ruined the atmosphere. Just to add to the fun I had barely got these shots when the sprinkler system erupted and soaked the whole area. Rather than violate the planted area, I chose not to take shots from behind.

Technical stuff: Canon 5DMkIII, 17-40mm L. Hand held.

    CC welcome!

    Strange but interesting. Nicely chronicled.

Interesting...was this shot in NZ? I visited there very briefly recently. Spent two days with friends then back to Melbourne where I belong.

Nope. The first image shows a Canadian website.

There seems to be a problem with white balance as the lady's face made of grey cement appears rather blue. I think the contrast is spot on in #4 but not enough in #2 and a bit too much in #3.

I like the idea of a park feature like this and enjoined your description of it. Thanks for sharing.

It reminded me of another lady, the Lady of the North in the UK:

Interesting. Nicely Chosen Viewpoints and well exposed. Plus, the Lost Gardens of Heligan were news to me so thanks for that as well.

I know her well in Heligan, been there a few times but not for a few years, just checked and its a few more than i realised! I have a few images of her and a giants head, the gardens are superb and well worth a visit if you are ever in the area - http://heligan.com/explore/estate/woodland/
