Wine -- 150th grape species revisited

Vidadillo is our 150th grape species though we drank it about a year ago when it was only 20% of the wine. (We've now enjoyed 167 grape species.) The wine in the photo is 100% Vidadillo, our first wine made that way. The grape produces rather tannic, quite enjoyable wine that in this version is neither great nor bad.

The Bioenos winery (not indicated on the front label) is located in Spain. Pulchrum is the brand name. Crespiello is the 12th century name for the Vidadillo wine grape.

Please click the image to display the texture in the label.

    Setup
The tabletop is grey presentation board made with a somewhat metallic finish that produces a faint reflection lacking detail. A small continuous-light lamp at the rear of the scene brightens a white wall that then reflects the light toward the scene from behind to create the bright rim light on the top of the bottle. A medium continuous-light lamp is on the extreme right side so the light rakes across the label and displays its texture. That lamp is fitted with a flag to create the shadow on the label. A medium continuous-light lamp on the right rear shines through a piece of translucent vellum positioned behind the wine bottle to create the reflection on the top of the bottle.

Oh my, I read the write up on this image, viewed the image and thought "Wow, someone is doing work just like Mike does." I failed to look to see who posted this (I think I need some sleep). So Mike, you have done another great image. The fine detail in the label is wonderful.

That's exactly why I only care whether I like how I make an image and recommend that others consider thinking about it the same way.

Nicely lit. I like the rim light across the top (rather the top side) of the bottle...

Off the subject... Do they put preservatives in less expensive wines - especially reds? My wife's complexion turns a vivid red when she drinks certain varieties or brands of red wines...

Awesome detail on the label, Mike.

167 species of grape. Wow! What's that like one a year?

From Wine Spectator's "Ask Dr. Vinny" piece:

"Wine comes with a few natural preservatives, including tannins, acidity, alcohol and sulfites. These all act together to give wine a long life, and help keep it from turning to vinegar—especially as long as the bottle is sealed and the wine is protected from oxygen.

"You’re right that there aren’t any human pathogens that could stay alive in wine, but there are other concerns of spoilage bacterias and yeasts that—while they can’t make you sick—can make a wine seem off, or become fizzy. That’s where sulfur dioxide comes in. Sulfur Dioxide is naturally found in wines and is a byproduct of fermentation, but most winemakers choose to add a little extra to prevent the growth of undesirable yeasts and microbes, as well as to protect against oxidation."

Notice that the piece doesn't make a distinction between inexpensive and expensive wines and, instead, refers to "most" wines. I don't know if we can conclude anything from that.

Hi Mike Sorry for being so late but I haven't been very active in CinC recently . I think I like everything in the image. The red part on the left certainly creates a balance with the red writing on the label and IMO it adds a lot to the composition. Very nice texture and details when viewed in lightbox.
