Tribal performer - C&C are most welcome !!

Recently I had been to a tribal fair, where i have taken this pic of a tribal playing flute. Natural sun light was falling on his face. In one pic I have kept the real back ground and in other one i have made black.

Kindly share your C&C for my pic.

    Regards,

    Tejal

First one is great Tejal, not a fan of black backgrounds

Tejal - I like the first one better as well. It sets the location of the image; the black background doesn't really add and it looks somehow wrong, given how the light falls on the musician. If you want to "fake" something, it still has to look right, and in this case it does not./

Nicely captured and PP, Tejal. I like them both but prefer the second for the Isolation. Nice job on substituting the BG. I really enjoy your work.

    Hi Tejal

Nice capture, the scene is great.
Personally I would open the shadows a bit, because the colors is to saturated for my taste. As the other mentioned the first one is my favorite. To me the black background removes the character from it's environment, and then you loose some of the story you trie too tell :-)

They both have merrit and are well captured , love the strength of the colors , vibrant yet not over board as some have a tendcy to over do the colors and I have been guilty of that .

The work you did on the background was done well, the problem is the tonal treatment of the musician doesn't match. Nicely captured image.

+1 to John's comment. The new edit is "not believable". The lighting on the man does not match the dark background, so it strongly suggests that the image has been manipulated.

Got it. I am trying to understand or in other words I would like to learn such type of shots, how we can make more artistic where we can enjoy the real feel of environment as well as the main subject could pop up.

Sort of Tejal - all of us have a lifetime of experience in looking at scenes and when something does not look realistic our brains tell us that the image has been manipulated. We pick up subtle clues and when the clues tell conflicting stories, we inherently experience some tension, knowing something is wrong with the image.

First image - the musician and background are lit is such a way that it makes sense.

Second image - at first glance, this image looks like it could be a musician on a stage with stage lighting hitting him. If we look a couple of seconds longer, we realize the light reflecting off him looks like natural light, not the harsh stage lighting and we start to wonder if the photographer is trying to fool us.

Third image - the lighting looks implausible. The musician is lit far too brightly for the background to be that dark.
