    A rose...

Was fixing the sprinklers over at the in-law's this morning so only had my trusty little SD1000 ELPH with me as my hands were wet and muddy.

    A rose...

For being just a little 7.1 Mega Pixel, fit in your pocket take it with you anywhere camera, I think it does an admirable job when on the flower setting (macro).

    Doesn't it just.

My suggestion would be a square crop though, if you could bring yourself to do some PP

    Hi Alan,

    Thanks for the crop.

I was hoping the crop would remove that pale triangular shape on the LHS half way up the frame, but it hasn't.

Therefore, I'd be tempted to 'burn' it in PP, along with a few other brighter parts, just to give the excellent colours of the rose unchallenged dominance in the image.

Or read another way; some people (e.g. me ) are almost never satisfied!

Pick any expletive to your liking and place it in front of ... Dave

PS please don't feel the need to follow me on the latest ideas, it is still a great picture of the rose.

very nice capture. I agree with Dave. There are some distractions in the background that you couldn't avoid. A little PP would make the image much nicer. I would do the burning that Dave suggests, darken and blur the entire background a bit, and maybe add a bit of contrast to the flower.

    Re: A rose...

My software isn't too sophisticated so I don't do a lot of PP stuff other than the occasional crop/resize/exposure etc. modification.
I did a little bit of work on another shot that had a slightly different perspective of the flower.

    A rose...

    What do you think?
    Any better/worse?

The main thing I wanted to get across is that there are a lot of cameras out there that most people wouldn't consider giving a second glance at but they are really capable of some fine captures.

    Better

There will be few here that disagree with the concept of the photographer being far more important than the camera/lens used, therefore, almost any camera can produce good results in skilled hands.
