I would also like to see this exhibition and even more, I'd like to see the photographer at work... Admittedly though, I don't think that I would have the patience to do this kind of work

As far as the exhibition goes, I would suspect that it would be even more spectacular if these were transparencies rather than large prints. Transparencies would be more vibrant (IMO) and possibly show more detail...

That is amazing....When technology takes wings like that, will it be treated as art anymore? i am not sure; how do you people think?

for me its art because I look and think the image is beautiful and fascinating - it makes me wonder and marvel at the stunning complexity of nature.

    I'm stunned.

Occasionally I think about doing something like that (not short of bugs here on the property) but displays like that make me think "why even bother?" !!

    That zoom feature was an eye-opener . . 0.25mm became about 2-1/2" on my screen . .

I wonder what computer power is used to combine about 10,000 images of that quality.

Mark, I want that setup! truly amazing images... and I will be heading for the exhibition in June!

Nandkumar, for me, nature is art and inspires art. Taking these images is not really any different from taking those great images that the Hubble telescope gave us of deep space nebulae and galaxies. Capturing the images is dependent on sophisticated technology in both cases. But the 'seeing' and the presentation of the 'final' image, that is a conscious act that has everything to do with art from my perspective.

Simply astounding. Mark, thanks for posting this.

I agree with James: IMHO, this is art, and like James, I am reminded of some of the remarkable images produced by deep-space exploration. I would love to see the exhibit. Maybe someday he'll bring it to this side of the pond.

It is common knowledge that Hubble images are heavily photoshopped...

Regardless... the bug images are great.

I must also realize the fact that an ardent painter may scoff photography as mere technology!!! So I conclude, handling technology is Art

Often so, but... back in the 18th Century many artists aspired to paint so realistically, that the subject would be almost 'photographic'. Go figure...
