Thanks John. Very good day to find snakes yesterday.
Question.
Not much activity on this one. Is it the subject matter are just the IQ of the image?
Just curious.
My guess is that the lack of expressed interest has to do with the issue that the image doesn't display the snake's head from either the front or the side. When an animal or group of animals are going away from the camera, something else has to be compelling enough to draw the viewer into the image. This image doesn't have that "compelling something else."
Nice, but I agree with Mike. It would have looked much better taken from directly in front.
What sort of snake is it? I don't know American species.
One thing I don't miss. It took me years to stop looking for them when tramping in the bush up here. Now I forget to look when I travel elsewhere
Yikes!!!!
I guess you didn't see my water snakes then (Water snake and prey). I do take pictures once in a while, it's not just techtalk. Those images are from 2012. I hope they don't scare you, the water snake is an innocuous animal.
I've been down by the gully many times every year since I took them, but never seen so many as in 2012. Now the place has been tidied up and the small waterfalls removed, so the fish is not gathering as before. I seldom see a snake there, and the herons have moved in closer, so I guess I was lucky back then when I found the pit full of snakes. Once I counted to more than hundred snakes there.
These snakes are not dangerous in any way for us. They grow to about 4' long and eat fish, frogs and other small animals, and they have no venom.

I have just been there through your link and read everything. You certainly had fun -- I would rather you than me ... geez! I suddenly feel cold now and goose pimpled (must be the draught). A snake to me, to photograph, should be behind glass. OK not fun...but at least I do not have to guess whether it is poisonous or not. An executive of AARP (car/people insurance) lives across the street from us. When he is in town, he volunteers at the St. Louis Zoo. Because he was scared of snakes, he asked to be put there in that section. He sort of think he can get over his fear of them. I haven't talk to him about his experience since but I told him I would rather stay away...he smiled. You are brave. I am not when it comes to long, slittery, cold, etc.,etc....
I really like your composition. Great shot.
Tony
Hefty looking guy, nice image.
