    Hummingbird shoot

I want a really big print of a hummer...I have shot them in the past with satisfactory results but
I wanna get closer for big prints.
Will be using a 1Ds3 on a tripod with remote shutter, in good light, 300mm f/2.8 lens with/without
2X TC and most likely pre-focused.

Questions due to memory lapses...what is going to be minimum focusing distance, and what will
    be resulting field of view?
Am looking to fill the frame with that 3-4 inch hummer.

Presumably the same physics apply to a Canon 300 2.8 as to a Nikon. So minimum focus distance is about 7.5 feet. At that range horizontal FOV on a full frame sensor is about 10.5 inches. Assuming my math is correct

The trig and hence the AOV would be the same for both brands. However, I think minimum focusing distance does vary with lens design. Canon lists the minimum focusing distance for that lens as 3 m / 6.6 ft.

And the FOV at those numbers would be what?

It's proportional. At 6.6 ft the horizontal FOV is 9.6 in. Just about right for a four inch long bird.

I found this calculator which may help.
