Looking forward to some shots when the buds open. Lilies are fun subjects.

By which I assume you mean the texture was only revealed by PP?

If you shoot RAW: the answer is NO.

If you shot jpg and fine tune some settings of your Picture Controls (or whatever Sony call them), you might get close to it, but you'd either be applying those settings to all your shots (when sometimes the subject matter wouldn't need it), or you'd be changing them willy-nilly, on the fly between subjects, assessing the results on the camera's LCD, which is hardly the best place to be making those judgements.

If you want consistently the best quality images, you need to shoot RAW and individually PP each scene shot on a computer - as I believe you are.

    What prompts the question?

just curious. I do shoot RAW but have been wondering if there is a way to get the same or better results other ways.

Not without (I would say) more work - and less chances of success (e.g. fewer of highest quality).

Thing is, you won't know until you see it on a big screen, so why not do the adjustments on that big screen too, when time pressures are liable to be less also.

Ain't that the truth, they look great on the LCD.
