    Early one spring morning.

The sun was just coming up. the background was a deep gully in the shade. the idea was to mimic the sun shining on the moon.

    Early one spring morning.

Nice use of light to isolate the subject. IMO for this to be effective the lit side all needs to be within the DOF. By lighting it this way you've focused attention that way so the detail should be there.

This is where a tripod, f16 or so, and a long exposure are your friends.
