    Forcing myself into new areas

I am determined that, despite my inner protestations to stick within my comfort zone, I am going to expand my photographic horizons and start taking a more contemporary approach to image-making. This fits with the teaching on the BA in Photography course I am currently undertaking.

I have just spent 4 days with the woman I love dearly and who is a far more creative, innovative and imaginative artist with a camera than I am. Just watching and learning from her and taking her guidance in a street photography session we did (more of which later), was an absolute joy and hugely exciting.

I used the Panasonic Lumix DMC_LX100 for this stuff.

This image came from a scene that I saw myself and thought there was a image to be made. As always, your comments and critique will be welcomed.

    Thanks, John.

It's not so much 'classes'. It's a distance-learning BA degree programme. I submit assignments comprising images and written work that are commented upon by my tutor and then presented for formal assessment and grading.

Donald, a very seductive image which draws me in.My imgination is running riot despite the guidance in your title.

For reasons that only a psychiatrist is ever likely to fathom, I'm seeing patterns through the texture of the sand that make me think of old celtic patterns I've seen at Newgrange. The shadows invoke half memories of fairy tales and I'm thinking/seeing the adult Hansel and Gretel.

Sharon's images always trigger the emotional and irrational elements of the way I see my world. It looks like the pupil is indeed a quick learner.

I really do like this image..

It's fun delving into new areas, especially with a companion...

Thankyou, James. It would have been very easy to put the shadows to black and knock out any detail of the sand. But what I wanted was to retain some detail to give a sense of what I saw as the shadows 'in' the sand as opposed to being 'on' the sand.

I love the framing of the shadows by the change in both the color and texture of the sand. That explains why I also see the shadows in rather than on the sand.
