Nice capture, could bring out some of the detail in the eyes but not sure if that would look creepy considering the lighting.

I find this image interesting. That is a very impressive tail and I like how the tip caught the light.

Wonderful back lighting! Fill flash to bring out detail in the face would have taken the image to a higher level.

Thanks John... These monkeys have dark brown faces (almost blackish). Pulling up the face may look out of place especially considering the backlighting.

Thanks Mike... Can't use flash in the jungle. The flash hurts the eyes of the animals.

Ashish... It's wonderful that you consider the animals you are shooting. I have been told that in low light situations like this, flash will hurt the eyes of Gorillas also but, that in brighter daylight and from a longer distances that the flash is not a problem for those animals...

Thanks Richard... Brighter natural light may negate the effect of flash but I'm not sure how useful flash would be at a distance where it would not affect the animals.

To be taken with a grain of salt, however he did say he consulted with an animal expert; but then again how do we know what affects anyone without either being in their place or having them communicate their experience.

I guess he's never seen an animal freeze when it is hit by headlights at night

    Funny.

I wonder though with primates, wouldn't they just blink like we do when we see a flash? I would be more concerned with frightening the animal away.

I guess this topic needs to be explored in greater depth... The reason I say this is we do use flash for macro... I wonder how that impacts the micro world. Hmmm... I guess I need to explore this further.

    Ashish,

Here's a good place to start and after reading I'll be looking for additional sources to confirm points made.

A very atmospheric picture. What sort of monkey is it? It looks like some kind of Langur to me.
