    Louis Armstrong With His Trumpet

    Hi Everybody,

I chose this photo to color because I tend to stick to white people when I colorize photos and I need to practice with different skin tones if I'm going to get better. Louis Armstrong's song What A Wonderful World was one of my favorites as a kid, so I chose him. Hopefully I did him some justice. If you guys see anything that could use improvement and have an idea that would help the color in the skin, let me hear them!

    Thanks,
    Zak

The skin and suit look fine to me Zak,

I can see that the reflective brass instrument, by its very nature, is a huge challenge to colourize as well as I suspect a colour photo would capture. The basic tone chosen is OK (perhaps a little 'over' in brightness?), but I suspect a colour image would show more variation of colour hues in the reflections of the room and surroundings. This isn't something I'd considered before.

Still very good overall though, Dave

Thanks, Dave. I totally agree with you. I tried to do some orange and gold colors mixed together to get the overall color of the trumpet and then wipe the color away from the reflected spots. I couldn't figure out what the reflections were so I left them the color of the trumpet. Any ideas on what the reflections could be?

Not really, although I think there's a face at 12 o'clock in the face of the horn bowl.
