Re: Study in Red
Hi Jordan - I like the overall premise of the shot, but three things strike me:
- Your buildings are distorted
- IMO, the orange building clashes with the red dress
- The bin
.
The buildings are an easy fix using the LR auto perspective correct.
The colour of the houses is relatively easy to fix using the luminance and hue sliders under HSL - I realise this is subjective and most on here would not change it. If you do try to change it, you will need to make a virtual copy, then adjust. Then take both images into PS and blend. The reason I say this is that adjusting the orange of the houses will adjust the women's skin tone.
The bin looks very difficult to clone out but I managed to take it out roughly in 10 minutes in PS with the clone tool, and paintbrush. This isn't perfect but it shows it can be done. I hope you don't mind me posting an edit of your image - to be honest I wanted the cloning practice!
I hope this doesn't come across as negative - there's lots to like here, but I feel you have a good picture that could be a great picture.

Re: Study in Red
I liked the original image and like the altered version even better. The leading lines of the buildings draw my eye to the lady in the red dress and then she draws my eye to the ship in the distance. Nicely seen and caught!

Re: Study in Red
You said it, Richard, the buildings, the lady, the ship. That’s all.
I could have easily painted the bin in pink, I could have moved it away before the shot, but this is not what I saw.
There is a line beyond which digital photography ceases to be photography.

Re: Study in Red
Fair enough Jordan - I am firmly on the other side of that line and happy to be so, but I completely respect the boundaries you choose to use. I'm happy to take down the edit if you prefer - no offence meant.

Re: Study in Red
No offence taken, Simon. Your edit may stay, but I believe that sometimes the small imperfections rather add than take away from our photos.
