My Son's First Cake Smash
My son just turned one and like every good parent, I wanted to see him smash some cake! CC welcome as I'm always looking to improve.

Re: My Son's First Cake Smash
I think these are excellent Josh - congrats on getting through the year! He's very cute. I'd be tempted to crop a little closer, particularly at the top, but it's just personal preference - they work fine as they are.
These are photos to be proud of, and I'd imagine you'll look at them for the rest of your life.

Your son looks great in those shots Josh All very nice shots. I would crop the darker parts next to top frames in all images and I would clone the dark big spots on the upper left parts of the frames in all images.

Re: My Son's First Cake Smash
All beautiful poses. If you have some space in #1 it would have been nice to put some where he is looking at and crop that side on the left. Or your can crop the left side and move it to the right to make up for the lack of it. Pretty much like #2, he's got space where his face is turned to. #3 is excellent. You son is very beautiful...one is a nice milestone...very nice poses, too...

This trio of images could make a great triptych. I would ensure that the lad is the same size and at the same level in each of the three images...

Re: My Son's First Cake Smash
On the basis that whatever happens in the US usually finds its way across 'the pond' within a couple of years, I put a post on social media alerting north-western Europe to the fact that something called a 'cake smash' seems to have replaced a birthday party.
Seems I am way out of date and it's already happening .... with modifications. Apparently, one variation is that you smash the cake with your face rather than your hands.
Am I just getting old?
ps - They make up a very good set of images, by the way.

Re: My Son's First Cake Smash
Thank you! Ah the cake smash trend. I'm not sure what it is either but I jumped on board because I thought that it would make a nice milestone memory. I'm not sure what others are doing but our cake smash did not replace the birthday party. We had his party with a cake that he smashed (of course I got pictures of this as well) and then a few days later, we have a cake smash photo shoot. I'm actually happy we did it this way because at his party, he was not interested in his cake and I did not get any images I was happy with. Due to the party, he missed his afternoon nap and was not in the best of moods lol. This gave me another opportunity and he seemed to have fun as well!
