    Spring Waterfow Part 3- Miscellany

We've had a bit of wind which dampens my spirits for shooting down at the marsh. But it calmed and I went out again yester eve. The birds weren't moving much but I managed a few captures including another first, a dowitcher. Whether long or short billed I can't discern. A couple of the shots are from a previous outing. All shot with D7200/200-500mm f5.6E

    1) The Dowitcher. He was in a messy spot of grass.

    2) Green Winged Teal drake in some nice water. Without direct sunlight the iridescent green on his head doesn't show. Just looks black.

    3) The purpose of my visit, to practice some BIF. Arctic Tern returning to the nest with a fish.

    4) From a couple days back a GWT female preening on a log. I liked the dark water and backlighting.

    5) And sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. While I was zeroed on her she flew.

    6) And if you think this is a Canada Goose, you're wrong. Sort of. It's a Cackling Goose which many argue is simply a sub-species of Canada Goose. Barely larger than a mallard duck. It cruised by on that lovely water. Dave and I were discussing using reflections to level images. Good luck on one like this

    7) And in the interest of some BIF practice, I gave the Mew Gulls some love. There are a couple of them nesting literally within 3-4 meters from where I was set up.

Thanks, folks. Glad you enjoyed the post.

Yes, Binnur, those are my favorite shots for the same reasons. I love shooting that location in the morning for the backlighting opportunities and there is typically less wind to disturb the water. The sun is masked by a mountain so by the time it breaks over the top it is already very bright. In the mornings there is usually no one there but me. There is a crowd afternoons. If/when I mention to people that I shoot mornings they typically say they shoot evenings because the lighting is better. I think to most people "better" means easier.

    Another nice series Dan,

Of which #3, the Arctic Tern, is my favourite - because I know how quickly these change direction in flight.
In fact I'm sure they mis-spelt the name, they meant Artic(ulated) Turn

    Cheers, Dave
