This capture is anything but calm for me, the sloping land mass just gives off too much energy. The skies support the theme and I suppose the sands, but that bit of land just says to me "try to scale me and I'll show you a few thrills". Nicely composed and captured.
Nice capture. B&W might work too.
Nice composition.
I don't see "calm" either but for me it is more because of the light than the rock.
Textured rock too strong to be a calming effect, Kaye...just a thought. Calm because there were nobody around? The sky is calm and the beach...Here is a question for you -- what happened to that person whose footsteps led to the mountain? Was s/he able to climb or went around it? If s/he was able to scale that mountain, did s/he jumped from it or did go another way?
I feel an intensity of subject here; really a great shot![]()
I get the calm; a wide open space, solitude, sunny, warm (assuming so, everything is green). I could see either sitting down on the sand or, setting up a beach chair, umbrella, maybe some kind of cool, refreshing adult bevvy, kicking back and ignoring everything that wasn't right in front of me. So for me Kaye it is indeed very calming. You saw something in this vista that felt calming and I believe you captured it. Since many of my most calming days are spent out in the (oh my goodness ever so harsh) sunlight this just totally works for me.
And Ms. Izzie, how do you know that those footprints aren't coming FROM the mountain, having climbed successfully over it and now that person, looking BACK is totally relaxed and calm?![]()
Jack, there are several footprints that were made going/coming to from the beach, now that you made me look...so my questions are not moot. But the lighter footprints from the bottom of the image seems to have moved towards the piles of footprints heading towards the beach. Two people might have made those prints. One coming from, the other going to. Thanks for making me look closely.
Thank you all for your comments - I find it very interesting that a mountain does not mean calm to some of you. I used to want to climb them, but now am quite content to only look, I suppose why I found this scene calm.
But actually this is not a mountain - it is towards the end of the Fish River Canyon and if you take the hike, this is where you end your 5 day trek. It is a 'dry' river bed rather than a beach and I am sure absolutely no one climbs the rocks, you would end up more in the middle of nowwhere than even this is in a very hot and hostile environment
