Not sure "Skip" is entirely appropriate for this activity.

When viewing the first image only, I didn't take in the scene for what it is (disbelief?), only when I saw the second did I realise the issue!

Great shot, Tony. This guy has some fantastic balance and strength.

Was this some kind of competition?

Well, in terms of elfin safety Skip is a much better name for a competitor than Slip.

Thanks John, Dave Sergio and Brian for the comments.

At the big agricultural shows in Australia they have real competitions. This was our little local show, more of a village fair, where they could only run to a demonstration. It's a bit hard to get access to the best vantage point for these.

The cross-cut sawing is in some respects more impressive, although not so dangerous looking. The cross-cut saws can cut almost as fast as a chain saw.

I've seen this kind of competition before and it was very entertaining specially for photographers. Good job on the processing. +1 to Brian's comment.

These competitions harken back to a time when "men were men". Logging is still a very dangerous and physically demanding profession. But nothing like back then. Many if not most in that line of work "retired" with broken bodies.

Nice captures... I would have lead the images off with #2 because it wasn't until I viewed #2 that I realized the guy was so precariously balanced. Nice capture of the saw competition, you caught it at a great time with the guy at the image left getting ready to push the saw... Love the intense expression on his face... I might just have cropped off a tiny bit of the sand at the top...
