    Hill of Crosses

Located some 10km / 6 miles of Šiauliai, in Northern Lithuania is a historical pilgrimage site where people have left an estimated 100 000+ crosses on and around this hill.

My youngest daughter and I just spent 10 days on a whirlwind tour of parts of Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. I guess there might be a few more images to come.

A few more images. The first time I tried to shoot, it was absolutely pouring rain, so shooting was tricky, but there were very few people around. When we came back the next day, the rain had stopped, by the crowds came out, so trying to get good shots was once again quite challenging.

The other issue had to do with composition - i.e. trying to find a way of drawing the viewer in to the scattered crosses.

I'm curious about the environment. From what I see through the crosses it looks quite empty. You don't have a picture with that? And what is the story behind it?

The whole area is in the middle of farmland. Flat with low rolling hills and among them are a couple of smaller hills. This is where the crosses are.

A remarkable mixture of religion and nationalism.
