Cesis Castle
The ruins of Cesis Castle (originally known as Wenden Castle) was built in 1209 by the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, in Cesis. Latvia. This military order of warrior monks was unique in that is was not established in the Holy Land, but was created in the Baltic area to convert the local pagan tribes to Christianity. It was destroyed by its garrison in 1577 to prevent it from falling into the hands of Ivan the Terrible of Russia.
1. This is a view of the castle ruins from outside of the castle walls
2. This a shot of the Master's chambers.
